How to Point a Domain to Your Hosting Account (Nameservers)

Registering a domain and setting up hosting are two separate things — nameservers are what connects them. If your domain isn’t loading your website yet, this is almost always the missing step.

What a nameserver actually does

Nameservers tell the internet which DNS system is authoritative for your domain — in other words, where to look up the actual records (A records, MX records, etc.) that point to your website and email. Pointing your domain’s nameservers at your host means that host’s DNS zone editor becomes the place you manage everything.

Finding your hosting nameservers

Your welcome email from DozeHost lists two (occasionally more) nameservers, typically in the form ns1.dozehost.com and ns2.dozehost.com. If you can’t find the email, your hosting control panel’s dashboard also shows them.

Updating nameservers at your registrar

1. Log in to wherever the domain is registered (this may or may not be DozeHost, depending on where you bought it).
2. Find the domain’s DNS/Nameserver settings — usually under “Manage Domain” or “DNS Settings”.
3. Replace the existing nameservers with the ones from your hosting welcome email.
4. Save the change.

What to expect afterward

Nameserver changes propagate across the internet gradually — most visitors will see the new destination within a few hours, but full global propagation can take up to 24-48 hours. During this window, some visitors may briefly see the old destination (or nothing, if there wasn’t one before). If you want to keep DNS elsewhere

If you prefer managing DNS at a third-party provider (e.g. Cloudflare) instead of your host, you don’t change nameservers to point at hosting at all — instead, point them at that provider and add an A record there pointing to your hosting server’s IP address.
