How to Transfer a Domain to DozeHost
Transferring a domain moves its registration to a new registrar while keeping the domain itself, its age, and (if you keep the same DNS records) its website live throughout. Here’s the process.
Before you start
- The domain must be at least 60 days past its last registration or transfer (an ICANN-wide rule, not specific to any registrar).
- It should not be within 60 days of expiring — renew it at the current registrar first if it’s close.
- Domain privacy/WHOIS lock must be disabled, and the domain must be unlocked for transfer at the current registrar.
Getting your authorization code (EPP code)
Log in to your current registrar and look for “Transfer Lock” or “Domain Lock” — disable it, then request the “Auth Code” or “EPP Code”. This is usually emailed to the domain’s registered contact address within a few minutes to a few hours.
Starting the transfer
- Go to clients.dozehost.com and choose Domain Transfer.
- Enter the domain name and the EPP code from the previous step.
- Complete checkout — most registrars charge a transfer fee, which typically also adds a year to the registration.
What happens next
Your current registrar will usually email you to confirm or reject the transfer — approving it (or simply not responding within 5 days, depending on the registrar) allows it to proceed. The transfer itself typically completes within 5-7 days. Your website and email keep working throughout, since DNS isn’t affected by a registrar transfer unless you change it yourself.
Once complete, update your domain’s nameservers if you’re also moving hosting at the same time.
