How to Create Hosting Packages for Your Reseller Clients
A package in WHM is a reusable template of resource limits and settings — creating a few sensible packages up front means every new client account is provisioned consistently, instead of you manually setting limits by hand each time.
Creating a package
- Go to Packages > Add a Package.
- Give it a clear name (e.g. “Starter”, “Business”, “Agency”) reflecting the tier it represents.
- Set disk space and bandwidth limits, or leave unlimited if your reseller allocation and pricing model support that.
- Set limits on email accounts, databases, FTP accounts, subdomains, and add-on domains as appropriate for that tier.
- Choose which features are enabled for accounts on this package (under Feature Manager settings, if you maintain custom feature lists).
- Save the package.
Matching packages to your pricing
Your packages should map directly to whatever pricing tiers you sell to clients — if you offer a “Starter” and “Business” plan publicly, create matching WHM packages with the exact limits you’ve promised, so account creation is a single dropdown choice rather than manual configuration every time.
Changing a client’s package later
If a client upgrades or downgrades, go to Account Functions > Upgrade/Downgrade an Account, select them, and choose the new package — their limits update immediately without needing to recreate the account or migrate any data.
Editing a package after accounts already use it
Editing an existing package’s limits under Packages > Edit a Package does not automatically apply retroactively to accounts already created from it — existing accounts keep whatever limits they were given at creation time unless you also run an upgrade/downgrade on each one. Plan your package limits carefully before your first few clients sign up, since changing your mind later means updating accounts individually.
