What Is BDIX and Why It Matters for Bangladeshi Websites

BDIX (Bangladesh Internet Exchange) is a local internet exchange point where Bangladeshi ISPs connect directly to each other, instead of routing traffic overseas and back. For a website, hosting on a server connected to BDIX means local visitors reach it over a much shorter, faster path.

How normal hosting routes traffic

A server hosted outside Bangladesh (commonly in Singapore, the US, or Europe) means every request from a Bangladeshi visitor travels out over an international submarine cable, reaches the server, and travels all the way back. Latency adds up, and it’s fully exposed to any international link congestion.

How BDIX changes that

A server peered with BDIX sits on the same local exchange as major Bangladeshi ISPs (Link3, Carnival, Amber IT, and others). Traffic between a local visitor and a BDIX-connected server never has to leave the country, which typically means noticeably lower latency and more consistent speed, especially during peak evening hours when international bandwidth gets congested.

Who benefits most

  • Sites where most of the audience is inside Bangladesh — ecommerce, local news, education portals, government-adjacent services.
  • Anything latency-sensitive: live chat widgets, dashboards, real-time booking systems.
  • Large file downloads or media-heavy sites serving mostly local traffic.

What it doesn’t help with

If most of your traffic is international, BDIX peering won’t do much — an international audience still reaches your server over the same overseas link either way. For a mixed audience, many hosts (DozeHost included) combine BDIX peering with international connectivity so both audiences get a good route.
