How to Create a New VPS in Virtualizor

Last updated July 21, 2026About 1 minute to read

Whether you’re a reseller spinning up a VPS for a client or setting up a fresh server for yourself, Virtualizor’s VM creation wizard covers it in a handful of steps.

Before you start

Decide on: the OS template (Ubuntu, AlmaLinux, Debian, etc.), the resource allocation (CPU cores, RAM, disk), and whether you’ll assign a dedicated IP or use a shared one.

Creating the VM

  1. In the Virtualizor admin panel, go to VPS > Add New Virtual Server.
  2. Select the virtualization type (KVM), then the physical server/node to deploy it on if you manage more than one.
  3. Choose the OS template from the list of available images.
  4. Set hostname, root password (or SSH key), and the IP address to assign.
  5. Set the resource plan — RAM, disk space, CPU cores, and bandwidth — either manually or by selecting a predefined plan.
  6. Click Create/Add. Virtualizor provisions the disk image and boots the VM, typically within a few minutes depending on template size.

First login

Once running, connect via SSH using the root credentials set during creation, or use Virtualizor’s built-in VNC console if SSH isn’t reachable yet (useful for confirming the VM actually booted before troubleshooting network access separately).

What to do immediately after

  • Update the OS (apt update && apt upgrade or yum update) before installing anything else.
  • Set up SSH key authentication and disable root password login (see our VPS security guide).
  • If you’re installing a control panel (CyberPanel, cPanel/WHM), do this before putting real sites on the server — some panels expect to run on a freshly provisioned OS.

Keep the VM’s Virtualizor-assigned name/ID noted somewhere — you’ll need it to find this specific VM again quickly once you’re managing several.
