How to Create and Manage cPanel Accounts in WHM
As a reseller, every client relationship maps to one cPanel account you manage through WHM. Here’s the full lifecycle.
Creating an account
- Go to Account Functions > Create a New Account.
- Enter the domain, a username (often auto-suggested from the domain), and a password — or let WHM generate one.
- Select a package (see our package-creation guide) to apply the right resource limits automatically.
- Enter the client’s contact email so account-related notifications reach them, not just you.
- Click Create.
Editing an existing account
Under Account Functions > List Accounts, find the client and use the quick-access icons to change their package, password, resource limits, or contact email individually without needing to recreate the account.
Suspending an account
Suspension (under Account Functions > Suspend/Unsuspend an Account) disables the account’s website and email without deleting any data — the standard step for an overdue payment, giving the client a grace period rather than an immediate, irreversible termination. You can set a custom message shown on the suspended site explaining why.
Terminating an account
Termination permanently deletes the account and all its data — files, databases, email. There’s no undo once it’s done, so confirm you (or the client) have any needed backup before terminating, and double-check you’ve selected the correct account in the list, since this action is immediate.
A safe habit for suspensions and terminations
Always suspend first, wait out whatever grace period your policy defines, and only terminate afterward — treating termination as a separate, deliberate second step rather than a single click gives you (and the client) a chance to reverse course if payment resolves or an account was flagged by mistake.
